If you've been yearning to vacation in Orange County, California, look no further than sunny Santa Ana. The county seat and most populous city in Orange County is part of the Los Angeles-Long Beach metropolitan area, giving you easy access to the hottest attractions. Whether you want an affordable motel or a luxury suite, booking one of the hotels Santa Ana offers is a cinch.

Santa Ana is home to world-renowned artists, unique exhibits and historic attractions. Its rich history, diverse neighborhoods and strong work ethic draw people from all over the world. Known as the small business capital of Orange County, Santa Ana boasts some of the best local shopping and dining experiences around.

To absorb a little bit of Orange County heritage, visit the Heritage Museum. Noted as one of the most interesting natural history attractions in southern California, this cultural center is comprised of nearly 12 acres and features buildings from the late 1800s. One of the most popular buildings is the Kellogg House. Built in 1898, the Kellogg House is a prime example of the Queen Anne Victorian style. A unique feature of the house is the salvaged ship's mast that stretches from floor to ceiling at the heart of the house. A spiral staircase surrounds it. The house is used as a museum to provide a hands-on education to schoolchildren. Public tours are available as well as tea parties and bridal portrait sessions.

Surrounding the Kellogg House and the other buildings of the Heritage Museum are breathtaking gardens. Small paths guide visitors along a formal rose garden and citrus groves. Guests can seek shade under the old-fashioned gazebo on the "wedding lawn" surrounded by jacaranda and magnolia trees. It's the perfect place to stop and snap a few pictures. Kids are also fascinated by the working blacksmith shop. Home to the Orange County Blacksmith Guild, visitors can see blacksmithing in action and learn the historical significance of the craft. Come for free demonstrations, sign up for beginner's blacksmithing classes or become a guild member.

While in Santa Ana, be sure to visit the Bowers Museum. This attraction offers lectures, art classes, exhibitions, community events and children's programs. The museum's philosophy is to teach people about a wide variety of cultures through art, giving us all a greater understanding and appreciation of the world. The Bowers' permanent collection includes more than 100,000 objects from cultures around the world, including Native American, Pre-Columbian, Californian, South Pacific and African. Special exhibitions are frequently on display and since the Bowers Museum has partnerships with the likes of the Smithsonian and the British Museum, it's likely you will discover something different every time you visit.

If you're more interested in a collection of wildlife, spend a day at the Santa Ana Zoo at Prentice Park. The zoo's mission is "to instill a passion for the natural world through recreation, conservation and education" and it truly delivers. With drought-tolerant plants, biodegradable soaps, recycling and compost bins and on-site programs to promote conservation, the zoo lives and breathes its philosophy. Kids especially love the zoo because of the Conservation Carousel, the Zoofari Express train ride and the Crean Family Farm.

No matter which dining options you seek, Santa Ana has a taste of everything. From fine dining seafood and winery restaurants to casual grills and bakery cafés, there's something here to tempt any palate. Accommodations are also varied, so finding the best hotels Santa Ana has to offer is easy. Also, staying in Santa Ana doesn't mean you're confined to one city, as Los Angeles and Long Beach are nearby, so your options are wide open.

Take a short drive into Los Angeles for a day at Universal Studios Hollywood. Tour the famous studios and experience thrilling rides with the whole family. Consider a behind-the-scenes tour of Paramount Studios or take a self-guided tour through the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Get a feel for what it was like one hundred years ago with the Victorian-influenced architecture and don't forget to take that stroll on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Booking your room at one of the hotels Santa Ana provides means you have a choice in amenities. Check individual hotel listings for services like free Wi-Fi, disability access, on-site restaurants and bars, 24-hour front desk service and on-site gift shops. There's no better way to experience Orange County than a quiet stay in Santa Ana.
